RECAP -- Week #3 Meeting

Parents:

The boys jumped right in to programming and learned how to adjust the speed, direction, and distance of the robot. We also learned how to use the light sensor to determine the color of light it passes over.

I assigned the boys 4 tasks to complete: (1) move the robot forward and stop it on the thick black line, (2) move the robot forward and stop on the 2nd black line; (3) move the robot forward at speed 30 to the 1st black line, then move at speed 20 to the 2nd black line, then move at speed 10; and (4) stop the robot on the yellow line. I decided to change the 4th task to “move the robot forward and turn it 45 degrees and continue forward” which is what we’d need to do for the robot-tank challenge.

Good news!! The boys completed the tasks AND finished the program (picture attached) to get maximum points in the first robot challenge: delivering the shark tank to the angled rectangle and then moving the robot back to base. I took a video here. 30 points is HUGE; so the team is well on its way to competing.

Finally, the boys picked a mascot (our cat, Shasta) who was less than enthused to be posing for the team picture.

Great job! And see you next week.
